- Gesundheit (HealthKit / Health Connect): optionaler Import
8. Weitergabe an Dritte

2. Overview
The Rivena app stores health and usage data only locally on the user’s device. There is no automatic transfer to the provider’s servers. We do not operate user accounts or cloud sync. Two features leave the device only at your explicit request: “Care nearby” queries external map services, and the info button in the finding view opens your browser with a search on informedhealth.org (IQWiG) – see section 8 for details.
3. What data is processed?
Depending on use, the following may be stored locally on the device:
- Password hash / credentials for app lock
- Findings, notes, optional document photos
- Medication plan and intake logs
- Health metrics (e.g. weight, resting HR, steps)
- Training and nutrition plans, lab values, calendar
- Personal documents: optional photos of a living will, health care proxy, organ donor card and vaccination record plus a note where the original is kept – local only, encrypted, shown on the emergency card if you choose
- Contacts: optional doctors, pharmacy, insurer with address, phone, e-mail – local only; calling and map view open the device's respective app
- Phone contacts: optional when adding a doctor or emergency contact. The app asks for the “read contacts” permission – only when you actually use the import. Only the details of the one contact you select are stored (name, phone, address if present); the app does not read your address book in the background, transmits nothing and never changes contacts
- Symptom diary: optional self-named symptoms with severity (0–10), time and note, optionally linked to a body area or finding – local only
- Cycle: optional, only if switched on in the profile – period start dates and notes; the app shows cycle lengths only and makes no predictions – local only
- Sex and pregnancy: optional – sex for calorie needs and matching check-up suggestions, due date to show the pregnancy check-up templates; local only
- Health expenses: optional receipts with date, amount and description, summed per year – local only; the year list can be exported as a PDF on request
- App settings (e.g. language, disclaimer acceptance)
Optional import from Apple Health or Health Connect happens only with your permission; imported values are also stored locally.
4. Purposes
Personal documentation and lifestyle support. No transfer for advertising or analytics by the provider as part of local app use.
5. Legal basis (EU/GDPR)
Where GDPR applies: processing on the device is under your control for your own health data; the app provider does not process health data on its own servers. Contact requests: Art. 6(1)(b)/(f) GDPR or consent where applicable.
6. System permissions
- Camera / photos: optional for finding photos and OCR
- Notifications: optional medication reminders; if you enable lock-screen cards, selected items (e.g. emergency card, today’s doses) may appear on the locked phone without the app PIN
- Health (HealthKit / Health Connect): optional import
- Location: optional, only for “Care nearby” and the nearby-practices list (see section 8)
- Contacts (read): optional, only to take over a doctor or emergency contact; only the contact you pick is read
- Device unlock (fingerprint, face unlock, Face ID): optional to unlock the app; biometric data never leaves the device – Rivena only learns whether unlocking succeeded
- Network: only for actions you start (e.g. Wi‑Fi transfer between your devices, searching for clinics, store update checks)
7. Device transfer, backup, Wi‑Fi
Optional encrypted backups and device transfer (including Wi‑Fi) are created and controlled only by you. There is no automatic upload to the provider’s servers. On Android, the database, photos and scheduled local backups are excluded from Google backup.
iPhone: the encrypted database may be included in your device’s iCloud or computer backup, which you control in iOS settings. It can only be read together with its key from your device’s keychain – this lets a device change via Apple’s backup work without Apple being able to read the contents.
8. Sharing with third parties
The provider receives none of your health data – there is no Rivena server that content is transmitted to. Exported files (e.g. PDF for a clinician) are your responsibility.
Review prompt: after prolonged use the app may once ask for a rating via the Google Play or App Store review feature. No record contents are transmitted; whether and when the sheet appears is controlled by the store.
Purchases (Plus): the subscription is handled by Google Play or the App Store under their terms. Rivena only learns whether a subscription is active – no payment details and no name.
A second exception: info links for findings, vaccinations, check-ups and the lab section open your browser with a search restricted to informedhealth.org (IQWiG, the German institute for quality in health care). The diagnosis name is sent as the search term – to the search engine and to the target site. Rivena itself writes no condition texts and transmits nothing else. The app explains this before the first use; nothing is sent unless you tap the button.
One exception: if you use “Care nearby” or the nearby-practices list in the contact or finding editor, your location or the city/ZIP you enter is sent to the free OpenStreetMap services Overpass (overpass-api.de, overpass.kumi.systems) and Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) in order to find clinics and practices in your area. These services are operated by the respective OpenStreetMap providers (server locations and retention follow their own policies) and receive no other data from the app – in particular no findings, medications, or lab values. No location history is stored, neither on the device nor by the service. The request happens only when you actively open this feature.
Map tiles are loaded from tile.openstreetmap.org; for technical reasons this transmits your IP address to that service.
App stores (Google / Apple) may process usage and device data on their own (downloads, purchases, crash reports) – see their privacy policies.
9. Retention and deletion
Data remains on the device until you delete it in the app (“Delete all data”) or uninstall the app (to the extent the OS removes app data).
10. Medical notice
Rivena is not a medical device and does not replace professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
11. Your rights (GDPR)
Where applicable: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability, and complaint to a supervisory authority. Because data is local, you can view and delete it in the app.
